Flor de Cana Gold 4 Years
This rum is from Nicaragua and possesses quite the rich and pleasant smell while pouring it. Personally, I am not much of a rum drinker but I did find the taste of this to be enjoyable. It's quite easy to drink even as the shot on its own. I guess I was expecting more of a kick or a big smack saying nope this is bad as a shot but there wasn't. The is a burn that you'll have at the back of your throat and the flavour of the rum will linger in your mouth for quite some time. As for the flavour itself, I'd say it's a bit nutty with some vanilla notes.
The Bar Test
I was expecting the coke to bring out some new intensified flavour but alas, nothing special happened. All you're going to taste here is the same flavour from the shot that is slightly diluted with fizz. I mean it tastes good but like I said there's really nothing special about it or anything that keeps me wanting more.
This is a tasty rum. I'd say that if you have it available or if you find it cheap (it's imported so unlikely) then by all means give it a go. I can't say I would try it again not only because I'm not much of a rum drinker but because I can think of other rums which I would prefer that would also be cheaper.
1. Similar smell to shot as expected. But the taste here is actually pretty good. Give it a go at the one to one ratio.
2. Original flavour is a bit mellowed out here. It's alright but you can feel that you're not tasting the full flavour
3. Similar to bar test here. Diluted rum with fizz.
4. Coke with a nice rummy after taste. If that's all you're after then by all means have at it.
