From a distance the smell reminds you sweetly of freshly made cake, with a lovely warm hint of vanilla essence, however the closer the get the more of a punch the alcohol adds to the scent. It is quite sharp up close. Upon putting this crystal clear liquid in your mouth you're tricked into a false vanilla style sense of security before an anise flavour sneaks in and takes control. It's nice and a little surprising all at the same time. it doesn't really burn, but if definitely adds a warmth to you mouth and by golly, it lingers. Thick is a way of describing the liquid.
The Bar Test
The smell pretty much doesn't change, but there are more of a plethora of herb scents along with anise under the vanilla feel. All coke to start and a refreshing vanilla and anise combo quickly follows before it wisps itself away moments after the liquid disappears from your mouth. Quite a beautiful experience, however fleeting. Something that would go well with a bottle of vanilla coke on a hot day out by the pool.
Not too bad to drink as a shot and lovely with coke, but we also see a shining use for this is hearty cocktails that need a little bit of a punch and some homeliness. Apparently served best with coffee beans, but we can let you decide on the one! We wouldn't buy it out, but we would definitely enjoy it at home.
- Smells brutal up close. tastes like a softer, easier drink version of the shot.
- The strength of the shot is unwavering as this also tastes and smells essentially the same.
- Interestingly, its still almost the same taste and it is the same smell. The coke is noticeable, but only just enough to weaken the flavour slightly.
- It smells the same. It starts with a slap in the face of samba goodness, before it is rounded out by the coke flavours. It is actually quite nice: a fine balance of vanilla, anise and coke. Would drink again.
