Eros Liqueur Apricot

The Shot

Very quiet. You can't smell this cheeky little beverage until the rim of the glass is basically tickling your nostrils by itself, but by golly - this definitely smells exactly like a fresh apricot that you have just sunk your teeth into for one of the more satisfying experiences one gets to feel in a lifetime. Unfortunately with this one, you do get a bit of an alcohol scent in there, which is worrying for the shot, but not surprising since apricot is a more elegant and subtle flavour. Once in the glass and pressed against your lips, you feel a strange sensation as you realise: it kind of smells like apple juice. One thing to note before you take your first sip is: the liquid is a very subtle rose coloured pink and it looks awesome! You won't notice straight away (if you aren't looking for it, though you will now I've told you), but once it hits you, you won't unsee it.

Oh my, this is incredibly syrupy and thick.and upon touching your tongue - it tricks you into thinking you are in fact drinking apple juice. After a cheeky flick around your mouth you quickly re-associate the flavour with apricots and enter into a world of bliss. It does somewhat remind you of a soft, sensual peachy flavour. You will remain in your world of bliss until you swallow, where you will be shocked as you are socked in the threat with a surprising (though not strong at all) alcohol feel. It disappears right after it has surprised you however and leaves your mouth salivating to the taste of apricot-y goodness. Yum!

The Bar Test

Possibly the most interesting thing you'll notice about the bar test is that the coke is a light pink tinged colour and the most quiet smell you'll even smell on a shot has been boosted ten fold to completely encompass the scent of the bar sample! It is quite cool, because you can now actually smell it from a distance, however it is a little weird because the bubbles in the coke almost immediately dissipate, leaving you saddened by the assumption that it will probably taste flat.

The coke is noticeably thicker from the moment it enters your palate, but interestingly there is an absence of apricot flavours. Only coke makes its grand entrance, leaving the apricot flavour sulking somewhere off set. Soon after you quit and prepare to rid your mouth of the liquid, the apricot flavour flutters in, just as the coke flavour runs away. This leaves you with a very gentle apricot flavour, probably comparable to the punchy flavour of rose water: quiet, sweet and subtle while still a wonder to behold. This flavour with stay with you for a very long time, occasionally interrupted by a bubbly coke fuelled feel and flavour, but never for long before return to its apricot-y gentleness. Definitely recommend, very different to what an apricot coke would taste like and much better than a mineral water, while still tasting both interesting and refreshing.

Recommendations

Would recommend perhaps keeping this aside mainly for cocktails, but hey it is quite cheap and you could realistically indulge in it however you feel. As a shot it is a little nippy on the way down, but down taste lovely and with coke it is a subtle master worth savouring every swig of, while remaining one of the easiest drinks we have tried to drink quickly.

Coke-O-Meter

  1. A stronger smell than the shot, smelling like a mix between apple juice and apricots, which really is something we hop a candle somewhere smells like. It's beautiful. tastes like a more syrupy version of the shot: all apricot, but this time with no burn.
  2. Same smell, but interestingly this time just tastes like apple juice, only really becoming an apricot taste a little while after you have finished it, which both creeps up on and surprises you.
  3. Same smell once again. This time tastes like watered down apple juice, but still an apricot-y flavour sneaks up on you a little later. It is actually quite pleasant.
  4. Smells exactly the same, but the flavour of the coke is now starting to dominate, leaving a mixture of apple juice and apricot as more of an aftertaste, like a side of bread with your main meal.
